EP 7. – Cottage Renovation Final Update

Hi there and welcome to the 7th episode of Kapella Group’s Friday Field Videos. Today, I’m back at the senior living community that we’ve been renovating for the past few months. In today’s video I’m going to show you the final results of this newly renovated cottage!

Renovations from Top to Bottom

Back in episode 4 of our Friday Field Videos, we had just hit the midway point of our renovation. Layout changes had just been completed and we were still waiting on cabinets and flooring along with a number of other finishing touches. Now, in just a few hours, we will be handing the keys over to the new resident to enjoy this beautiful cottage, but before that happens, let’s take a look at where this unit started and what’s been renovated…

Opening Up the Kitchen

I think the best feature of the whole cottage is this brand new kitchen. Before renovations, the kitchen was a closed off galley sharing a wall with a large study. By removing part of this wall, we were able to open up the kitchen and add a large peninsula perfect for Sunday morning breakfast.

Full Bathroom Remodels

Another major part of this renovation were the two full bathrooms on the main level of the cottage. New tile, cabinets, and lighting along with ½” shower glass give these bathrooms a luxurious feel.

A Fireplace with a Large Mantle

Before we head downstairs and look at the work completed in the basement, I need to show you the fireplace. This is a handbuilt fireplace that I personally designed and built to fit the space. The 17” mantle is perfect for pictures of the family, holiday decor, or even a big screen tv!

New Flooring Throughout

As we head downstairs, you’ll notice new tile flooring in the entry and new carpet throughout the rest of the house. We also repaired and replaced most of the baseboards to help revitalize the old and worn down trim.

A Bright and Spacious Basement

The final major renovation completed in this cottage was opening up the basement and installing new lighting. By removing an unused bedroom in the basement, we were able to create a large living space for the grandkids to spread out and play without making a mess of the main living space. We also connected a storage closet to one of the downstairs bedrooms to make a large walk-in closet for clothes storage.

Move In Ready

Overall, this has been a fun renovation to watch come together. It’s not often we get to work on such a large unit with such a large scope of work. It’s been a breath of fresh air to get our hands on something other than the standard multifamily and senior living apartment-style unit. We hope the new residents are happy with their new home and we can’t wait to get started on another project with this client.
